Night out

Back on December 3rd I went to a friends  30th Birthday party, when I was invited  I was ecstatic I would able to make it. I normally have pretty busy Saturday nights at work but by luck I only had day time events.  So I was able to take the night off and have date night and catch up with friends at the same time. It was a Masquerade Party ( hence the masks in most the photos). I was excited to get a cute mask to match my little teal sweater. Well turns out a little harder than I thought. I did find amazing earrings and a nice peacock feather to dress up my mask. Too bad my normal late self didn't find time to add it to my mask...opps. Oh well it was a fun night even without the feather. I loved getting the chance to dress up and go some where besides work and even enjoy a few drinks.
This is a picture of Matt and I as we arrived at the party, kinda glad they made us pose for the photo and even better that shared it with me. I take a ton of photos but I am not in nearly as many of them as I should be.

There was a photo booth tucked away in the back and it was a blast, Matt insisted we wear out masks in the first photos and again glad we did.

This set would have to be my favorite after we figured out how the photo booth worked we were able to get some pretty decent photos.

Kellie Pickler in Concert

My amazing and generouis coworker invited me to go to see Kellie Pickler in concert. It was was a last minute invite the week before and I was excited for a girls night out. Little did I know how great it was going to be. It was the KFROG Champions For Children's at Morongo Casino Club Vibe so it was not only fun but it was for a good cause.

It was great a small intimate gathering and the entire show was amazing. The opening band was Low Cash Cowboy and they were great.

After the show we hung out at the casino for a bit and used our FREE $20.00 play credits we got after the show. It was a little more difficult to find winning machines or even machines that took the free credits but have no fear I came out a big winner.

I walked away with over 4 bills!!!  Pretty impressive if I do say so myself. Don't worry I didn't spend it all in one place...well actually I did with gas prices these days it got me just over a gallon of gas. All $4 dollar 'bills'  that is went to gas. Over all it was a great night out I got to hear a great new band Low Cash Cowboys and had a lil needed girl time out of the house. So a special thanks goes out to Christina my amazing coworker and to a fabulous girls night out, I can't wait for the next "date night."

A Christmas photo or two or three ...

So I try and take a nice photo or two every year to use as a Christmas card and this year was no different, well just a little I never got around to ordering and sending out the Christmas cards. I guess I was enjoying the photo taking too much or maybe just plain busy. She here is a collection of most of the good photos we took that could have been considered for the Christmas card.

One of my favorites, when I asked Sydney to take a photo in front of the Christmas tree at home and this is her pose. Love her silliness. This was my screensaver on my phone the whole month of December.

Still being funny as can be and making sure I can still see Rudolph in the photo.

Me, Sydney, Max and Rudolph.... A bit fuzzy because it's from my
cell phone and we were probably moving a little.

These were my 4 favorites from this late night cell phone shoot. Not quite Christmas card worthy but fun.

This is similar to what I probably would have ended up with on the card a big photo of Sydney and two small photos of the both of us. Maybe not theses exact photos just playing around with spacing to see if it would work.

This was one of the many "after breakfast with Santa photos shoot photos from my work." it has begun a tradition and always a long drawn out photo shoot with Sydney getting tired and coming off the sugar from the syrup but somehow we always get a few good photos.

This one is one of my favorites but if you look to close she's not really smiling...

This one is much better and defiantly would have made the final cut.

This is Sydney by my cousins tree, I realized we took a lot photos in front of different Christmas trees this year. There were two different trees we took photos in front of that I didn't include.

This is Sydney with Santa, from the pancake breakfast. Another final cut for sure.

Matt posing with Santa at a Christmas dinner.

Me and Matt posing with Santa at the Christmas dinner.

Sydney's self portrait with her reindeer ears she HAD to have. She looked adorable so I added it in.

Sydney in her new hello kitty Christmas shirt and reindeer ears.

A different angle.... Neither Christmas card quality but I had hoped to get at least one ... And these were the two best photos from Sydney's Holiday performance.

Last the group photo of me, Sydney, Auntie Tarah, Auntie Cara and Max on Christmas morning. I realized I waited to long to send out Christmas cards but I did get a great collection of holiday photos to look back on.

Maybe next year we will don the Christmas clothes and take pictures at the mall when they put the Christmas decorations up in October then I'll have no reason not to get a christmas card out before the new years.

Cheerleader vs frownleader

This post had been quite a battle...for some reason everything and I mean everything connected to cheer leading has been difficult and time consuming. This is the third time i am attempting to retype this, twice moments before posting it there was a problem and the program shutdown and I lost everything. So it may be a bit more bitter than the first time I wrote it but over all its the same idea. This is what started it all Wii Just dance Kids.

I have countless photos of Sydney playing Wii Just Dance Kids and if you are not familiar with this is is perfect for kids and each song has a different costume change. As you can see Sydney loved to dress up like each one. Her all time favorite was the Disney "cheerleader song" Sydney lived inn this outfit nights and weeks. So after a little persuading from Auntie Cara I signed Sydney up for cheer leading. One of her good friends from Kindergarten than ended up changing schools, (only a few blocks aways but closer to her house) was signed  for the Thursday night class so that sealed the deal. Thursday night cheer leading class with a few parades and a show.

The very first practice they were so cute spinning, twirling and jumping around and some even followed along with the coach.

A few weeks later thay got pompoms and they were a big hit and really made them look like "cheerleader girls" and by this time they were a little better at following along and doing the same moves. For the most part practices were fun a little late and we didn't get home till almost bed time but it was only once a week. Little did  I know this was the least of my worries.

The cheer uniform... the dreaded cheer uniform as it was referred. Please note how much smaller her skirt was than her top, laying down a full two inches smaller, meaning it was so small it didn't fit. I was fearing something like this would happen and we only got it the evening before the first parade so there wasn't much I could do beside freak out. After calming Sydney down, getting her to stop crying an into bed I repeatedly called, emailed and send text messages to any and everyone even remotely related to this organization. Sydney woke up crushed and neither of us were looking forward to going. I talked her into giving it a chance and they if she didn't have a skirt that fit we would home. It was a sad morning getting ready and needless to say I could not get her to smile once.

I was wishing, hoping, praying and had my fingers crossed it would work out. I was so worried I even had cash in hand just in case they may be buy her a new skirt I was willing to shell out another $70 for a new uniform even thought her current one was brand new, but to keep her from crying and hating life I willing to do it.

When we arrived they her lots of other girls huddled around a car trying to swap out uniforms. We got one that would zip but it was too big so two giant safety pins later we had a skirt that looked like it might work.

Best of all we had a smile! The first smile of the day posing for a picture moments before the parade was to start with her friend Aryana.

Marching in the parade was a long walk and it was cold and poor Sydney had to pull up her skirt the whole way. She was not having fun but she made it the whole way and was ready to take off her "stupid skirt" and be done. I wasn't so pleased either and after waiting for someone to try and help we left with he same skirt that was so big it slipped off if not pinned smaller. The worst part her next preformace was the next day. So hungry and sad we all left to hopefully figure something out before tomorrow.

I tried to alter the skirt the best I could without damaging it or having to fully undo and resew the whole thing. I rolled the waistband over to try and shorten it since it was about 2 inched longer than most girls skirts and would slip down well below her knees. Then I took the button off and moved it over almost two inches. It did not look pretty from the back and would not lay flat but at least it would stay up.

My poor little girl she was so worried that her skirt would fall off the whole time and she wouldn't smile.

A sade fake half smile for mommy just before she was done.

It was one issue after another with cheer, from lack of communication to disorganization to uniforms mishaps to missing orders. I can say it never seems to put a smile on my face. I felt like I was going to have  panic attack every time we went somewhere. From the lack of preparations, to the information to lat minutes changes it was VERY hard for me to handle and hard to try and stay calm and keep Sydney calm as well. I plan, organize, coordinate, double check even triple check everything all day long at work so it was very very difficult to walk into such disorganization day after day. Needless to say it got to a point where I stopped expecting things to go smoothly. After all of my issues with just about everything they offerded me a free photo package to try and calm me down. It was defiantly a nice gesture and calmed me down for a little bit.

Unfortunately that all it was a nice gesture. Cheer leading ending about three weeks ago and no photos and no call back and no returned emails. I am glad I decided to take my own photos and was able to get a few nice photos of Sydney smiling. Over all I would have to say it was a learning experience and I learned I HATE disorganization and being uninformed. I learned that sometimes no matter how hard you try and want it to work out in the end it still may not work out but make the best of it. Sydney didn't like the parades or the show but she loved seeing her friend Aryana. So at least it wasn't a complete loss she got in some quality girl time.

It  is probably no surprise that we wont be starting up cheer again in late January. Sydney wants to try soccer but after this I am a little scared and not looking to invest a ton of time or money in something she hates. So for now we are enjoying not driving home late and stressing over uniforms.

Thankful

This post has been in "the works" for quite some time now it was started in November worked on in December and finally posted in January. November and Thanksgiving brings thoughts of what we are thankful for and I am so thankful for my family, friends and most of all my amazing daughter. A few highlights and lowlights from November.

Sydney getting sick once again, I feel like we live in waiting rooms and exam rooms these days.

Broncitus followed by an ear infection and more sleep than ever! Don't get me wrong here it was a lot of sleep but broken up into about 1-2 hour chunks. So I was up with her every few hours trying to comfort her. Then to top it off the first rounds of meds made her extremely ill and we had to go back again a few days later for more and start the process allllll over again. On a happier note Thanksgiving really crept up on us.

A few decorations from work.

I started the day working as always the big Thanksgiving day buffet at work and ended the day surrounded by family.

My highlight for the day would have to be Sydney coloring a thanksgiving page for everyone there. Adorable and sweet as can be!

As Thanksgiving came to a close Christmas was right behind it in our house. We got the tree and decorations out and instead of standing line and shopping all morning on black Friday we slept in and started decorating. Auntie Cara and Sydney did most of the decorating including the acrobatic placement of the star atop the tree. Auntie Cara and Sydney are not the tallest people but together they made a great team. It was quite a sight to see but it all worked out perfectly and I was able to capture most of the moments on camera. Which I will omit till they get the ok by auntie Cara. - Christa
